Hoop Dreams: The Inspirational NBA Journey of Andre Ingram
Let’s talk hoops for a moment. I’ve always been a huge basketball fan and have been blessed to become friends with some incredible NBA superstars like Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire, and Chris Bosh just to name a few. But sometimes the most inspirational stories come from the most improbable heroes. Take the story of Andre Ingram for example.
Those who don’t follow sports may not be familiar with Andre’s incredible story, so I will attempt to provide a quick synopsis. Most players in the NBA begin their professional careers as a draft pick out of college, or even an undrafted free agent that finds their way on a roster. Most NBA rookies are young men in their early twenties, fresh out of school and ready to make a name for themselves in the NBA. Not Andre Ingram.
Andre just made his NBA debut this week, as a late-season call up for the Lakers, at the ripe old age of 32. In the great scheme of things 32 is obviously still quite young, but in basketball, that makes for a rather seasoned rookie. What makes Andre’s journey to the NBA so special is the fact that for over a decade, he toiled in the NBA’s developmental system – the G League. For over a decade Andre rode buses from town to town, playing in front of small crowds a fraction of the size you’d see at an NBA game. No glitz, no glamor, no big payday. After ten years of that, I think many people would have given up on their NBA dreams, but Andre never lost sight of his dream and worked so hard to make it a reality.
As if making his NBA debut at 32 wasn’t special enough – it’s what Andre did on the court which made his moment in the sun truly legendary. After spending a decade in the G-League, Andre Ingram made his NBA debut extra special by scoring 19 points on some absolutely lights-out shooting.

Andre’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and just goes to show that if you work hard and stay on your grind – eventually things are going to work out for you. I’m sure Andre experienced doubts and struggles along the way, but his success is defined by the fact that he never gave up on himself or his dreams. In the process he became a legendary inspiration to people all over the world. He never listened to the haters, and most importantly – he never lost belief in himself. If everyone believed in themselves the same way Andre did – just imagine what we could all accomplish together!
