Market America Launches Tmall Global Flagship Store

As many of you heard at the Market America | SHOP.COM 2019 International Convention last month, President and COO Marc Ashley announced from stage that Market America | SHOP.COM will be launching a one-of-a-kind Flagship Marketplace Store on Tmall Global in China at the beginning of September. That launch is now here!

With the launch of this new channel for reaching consumers in the China market, it’s helpful to outline how this will work for you as an UnFranchise® Owner, and what the opportunities are. The process is very simple: If you have customers in China who have already been purchasing from your SHOP.COM Global (GLOBAL.SHOP.COM) site, we will credit you with 100% of the BV for all orders that those customers place on our Tmall Global store, using the matching technology we use for other marketplaces like Amazon and eBay. 

Because of the higher operating costs on Tmall Global, we can only credit BV for the order, since there is no retail profit to offer. However, our strategy on Tmall Global will also include a strong investment in marketing to attract new customers, which we will be assigning out to UnFranchise Owners who are active in building a customer base in China (we are working on the exact specifics of eligibility for receiving customers — stay tuned for details). In addition, we will be creating tools to help you build your own customer base in China who will be directly associated with you.

What types of products will be available on Tmall Global?

We will be providing nearly our entire USA product catalog of retail products. These products will be shipped from our Greensboro, N.C. warehouse, via a special carrier only available to brands with storefronts on Tmall Global, and will arrive in the hands of consumers in China within seven days. If that wasn’t incredible enough, Tmall Global’s goal is to get that time down to four days before the end of next year!

The consumer in China does not need to pay duties or taxes, and while there is a nominal shipping fee, we will be running specials throughout the year where we will even waive that shipping cost to your customers in China on Tmall Global. We will also share with you any special promotions we run so you can help promote them to your potential customers in China and help them become an active Preferred Customer of yours.

What should you do now? 

The most important thing is to encourage contacts you have in China, who are not already  registered Preferred Customers of yours, to register and place an order on your SHOP.COM Global site. That will ensure that any orders they place on Tmall Global will be credited to you properly. Then you’ll want to help promote our Tmall Global store to them, as well as stay tuned for new announcements regarding the growth of the Tmall Global project!

There are many more exciting enhancements we are going to make to this program over the coming months, like:

  • The inclusion of a curated list of OneCart® merchant partners into our Tmall Global store so you can generate both IBV and BV
  • Expansion to other marketplaces in China to increase our visibility and footprint
  • Adding technologies to make growing your customer base in China even easier, and incentivize you and your team to leverage the China market
