Never Forget: 9/11
September 11th will always be a date that Americans remember. For me, what’s most memorable about that date is not the terrorist attacks which took place, but the sense of community and unity that persevered in the face of unspeakable tragedy. The memory of those whose lives were lost on September 11th, 2001 will always live on in the spirit of our great nation.
Today, let us give thanks for our service members and first responders who always put others first in times of need. Those heroes who race up stairways in burning buildings to save people they’ve never met before help serve as the very backbone of our nation – and represent the very best among us all. While we all have petty differences and different ways of viewing the world – one thing that always unites us is the way we rally together when people are suffering.
Our capacity to help and heal is what makes us human. We’re seeing that very same heroism and humanity in stories about Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, where people have been going above and beyond for their fellow man. May these tragedies help serve as a reminder that when it all comes down to it, we all share this world together – and it’s up to every one of us to help each other.
