Why Should I Get the Apple iPad?

Granted, I don't get caught up in the Apple vs. Microsoft debate or contest. I have both an Apple iPhone and a Blackberry in my pocket because they each do certain things better than the other. Frankly, it is worth it to me to have both devices, but it is a shame that one of the two can't seem to get it right. The problems that each one has are solved by the other.

So I purchased an Apple iPad in order to try and figure it out (and also to stay ahead of the technology curve). From what I've read so far, basically, it is a big iPhone that will connect to the Internet via a wi-fi hot spot or 3G connection (coming soon).  In the gadget war, the Apple iPad is interesting because it is a hybrid between a phone and a small computer. The screen is cool, but most of the 150,000 apps available have not yet been redesigned for the larger screen. In fact, there is a nice feature to make them fit the iPad's screen, but they don't look very good.

The most important feature of the iPad is its digital reader. It accesses libraries of books and magazines from popular sources and has all sorts of visual bells and whistles, like flipping pages and displaying your available books on a bookshelf. While I thought that digital publishing would be an avalanche, it hasn't become one yet with periodicals. People do not want to get the digital version of something when it has already come out in print and blogs offer real-time information. Blogging versions of periodicals displaced digital periodical publishing to some extent. I think that there is a play to be made with digital periodicals. I think it would be very powerful to merchandise with a shopping portal like marketamerica.com so that when you can click on a hot spot in an ad or article, you are taken right to the landing page to buy it. That would be added value to the advertiser if publishers distributed the digital version of a periodical along with a subscription to the print version and blog. However, the technology and marketing strategy aren't there yet. I like what magazines like Haute Living are doing with blogging and how they have integrated a list of cities and real estate.

There are so many opportunities in this online interactive environment. The online book market is interesting and has its conveniences, but I do not see where the monetization of the industry is. Until it serves up relevant advertising in the margin, relevant to the subject matter of the book (like the Google AdSense model), there does not appear to be a strong financial backing to the industry yet. Reading a book certainly defines a reader's profile for improved One-to-One Marketing.

I guess the iPad was designed to compete with Amazon's Kindle, and I think that Apple is planning an advertising play with the iPad.

Other things I notice about the iPad are that it seems to be best for watching movies and playing games. I am not a big gaming fan because I am just too busy. I mean, with social networking alone, who has time for anything else after work, events and exercise? One other caveat, the iPad lacks flash support, so that is also a challenge along with its inability to offer multitasking on the device (for now). I often toggle between more than one application.

I must say though that I love some of the intuitive functionalities of Apple products. In spite of the iPad's cool screen function, I feel that it's not there yet. I downloaded the application for desktop viewing so I can access my desktop remotely from my iPad.  My business functionality is still primarily Microsoft Outlook driven. Networking with a PC desktop allows you to view but not input anything, and so it is nothing revolutionary. Of course you can still access and utilize Outlook functions, like e-mail, just like you can on the iPhone.

Despite my reservations about the iPad, one thing cannot be denied or ignored. Apple's history has proven that the Apple second versions are worth waiting for. The second versions are always full of improvements and surprises, and are offered at better prices. The 3G version of the iPad will come with some new features that make it more useful, but it will require another $15 to $30 a month for a data plan (at least there is no contract to sign) that you may already be paying two or three times over, if you have an iPhone or a blackberry plan. At some point though, you have to say: "enough!"

So despite all of the positives (and there are a lot of them) along with a few negatives, one thing is certain, I'm still trying to justify why I actually need one and what I could use it for. It does a lot of things good and with future iterations, seems like it will only get better. So who else is considering the iPad - and is partly on the fence? Leave me a comment about what is holding you back from getting an Apple iPad.

Keep growing,

JR

JR, when people see Apple they think of high tech, they think of classy, Apple has done an incredible job on Marketing the way people think when they see an "Apple" product. My teenage daughter would not be to excited or impressed when she sees someone with a blackberry or other smart phone they are all kind of lumped together but she will call the iphone by name. Because of the way people look up at you and Market America as the way of the future high tech but easy (Not saying your easy lol) and because of the way people have been trained by the marketing of "Apple" it just puts more credibility with Market America and that is important, and yes I would like one and I'm not sure why I guess I am one of those that got brain washed by the "Apple Marketing" program.

I NEED an iPad because I can use the big screen to show Market America power points to my potential business partners when I'm out on the field. As for now, I have been using my iphone to show them but the only bad thing is that the screen is not as big as an iPad. When the iPad came out, that's the first thing came to my mind. Wow...big screen = show Market America power points = residual income! ^_^

It is digital time and we are going to live a digital life. I think iPad will be cool for us to use it to show our UnFranchise Business Plan to prospect. High tech, high touch! It will be a good tool to connect digital magazine and book to online shopping through our webportal, like Powerline did.

It will be even cool if we can use iPad for online webinar anywhere.

Being a professional computer geek I love gadgets but to me the iPad does not offer enough functionality to justify the purchase. Maybe with the next generation it will be different but I will not be buying one any time soon.

Another reason to wait is the HP "Slate" that will run Windows 7 and offers expandability that the iPad doesn’t. Other companies I am sure will be soon to follow and I want to see what they all have to offer. I like to be sure the technology I purchase will increase my productivity not just my activity.

    Hi JR,

You are correct with some of the uses of the iPad. It is primarily a device used for the consumption of information and media.

However, more apps are being developed every day to add functionality. The BlackBerry is still the king of email, but the enormous selection of apps for the iPhone continues to add functionality to that device that the BlackBerry just can't handle.

    With the iPad you can:

    1. As much as you travel you can use iWorks to handle light correspondence and even a PowerPoint presentation such as the business opportunity imported into Keynote. Even with the external Bluetooth keyboard it is a smaller package than a full-sized laptop.

    2. View and show videos on YouTube. (They have been converted to HTML5)

    3. You can control your remote PC from afar as well as from within your home and access files when traveling.

    4. If Market America has a Microsoft Terminal Server or Citrix server you can remotely access corporate data and information.

    5. You can access unfranchise.com and check reports.

    6. Doodle ideas with drawing or text with an app called SketchPad.

    7. Use GoToMeeting for the iPad to collaborate with others from the office.

    8. As you mentioned, you could use existing iPhone apps on the iPad. As these apps get upgraded for the iPad, you gain even greater functionality.

    9. You are correct that second generation Apple products have even greater functionality, but you can experience much of that functionality right now and then either pass along that iPad when you trade up or sell that iPad and for what your time is worth it was more than worth the difference in cost for the 12 months of using the device.

    10. You can connect the Apple VGA adapter to it to display the iPad screen on a larger screen or TV.

I don't consider any of the above necessarily recreational activities, but business productivity applications.

Thank you for soliciting our input.

    Cheers,

    Chip Emely

The new Apple iPad is HOT!!! It's a revolutional new product for this age!! There's just so many reason why we should have this; 1st of all, it's high tech, convinient, good looking, and most importantly it's a TOOL for us to follow the trend and do our one to one marketing!!! Picture a normal day going to work and at the same time of course building the 2-3 yr plan; it's hard to carry around tools and laptop for market america use, well, even if you do it's just pain in the butt to carry all these things... But imagine putting the power point slides, mall talk, product info in the iPad, it's just much lighter, and easier!!!' Plus the ability to surf the Internet through wifi or the 3G network that AT&T provides, it just make sence for u to bring it with you and be able to show the business, expose the opportunity in front of people's face!!!! I think it's a great TOOL, and it'll one day become a house hold product as well. Also, Go green!!!! Saves paper..happy earth day:)

It revolutionized e-reading and the way we might read in the future already, just to name an example. Wait until people learn more about the power it unleash as a portal when true cloud computing arrives in the near future.

There is only one logical reason to having in Ipad is this;"Your either moving forward or your moving backward. To not have one is like standing still and that is the same as moving backward. Forward thinkers are always moving forward!"

I will use it daily to monitor our UnFranchise Businesses.

Apple stock went from $219 to $270 in one month. iPad is part of the reason. Working with high tech iPad has to simplify our daily routine. The market will tell us otherwise.

    HI JR.
I recently got an iPhone and fell in love after years of Blackberry usage. As soon as I got the iPhone I immediately started researching the iPad. My step son doesn't live with us and does not have high speed internet at home(rural area). He is in high school and I think he would benefit from the iPad's portability and the internet connectivity provided by the 3G version.
    Have a great weekend.

Now I am in meetings daily writing emails, coordinting with contractors, building a following thru social media and training others to do what I do. Being so connected to a browser, and mainly my iPhone now. It makes sense to use a bigger, more powerful handheld device.

    JR:

Having an iPhone and a MacBook myself, I am a firm supporter of Apple, and I can personally testify that Apple’s innovative products have made my life much easier in my daily operations. An iPad is one step further to making daily operations even more simplistic.

Knowing people that preordered the iPad, I’ve been able to check it out and evaluate the iPad for myself. I can honestly say the iPad is more amazing than I expected it to be. It is slim, innovative, and extremely portable. I really do think the iPad is an incredible piece of cutting edge technology that could change the use of laptops not all that far down the road. If you’re on the fence about buying one, perhaps I can help, being an entrepreneur and MA independent distributor, by giving my personal analysis of the product.

An iPad is about 90 percent of what a computer is. With a multi-touch screen of over 1000 sensors and an LED-backlit display, I feel it far surpasses the finger touch quality of the iPhone in precise typing and usage. I would agree that a lot of reviews deem the iPad to be a larger version of the iPhone, and it is believed to be a cross between smartphones and laptops. It differs from an iPhone though because I think Apple was able to take the technology from the iPhone and apply their knowledge of what worked and what didn’t work when designing the iPad. It really is a device that can change the way we do things every day.

The iPad is fast processing, easy to use, and extremely convenient. Because of this, documents, the web, or applications can be opened in the blink of an eye and can be shown to others with a simple flip. You can type full documents on the iPad, read books online, and watch movies or presentations in a LED crisp clear color. I agree with you that the market for online books is rather small at this moment, but just like anything else that grows big and becomes a trend, it has to start somewhere. iTunes would be a perfect example of this as they started from nothing and look how big it has grown. Online book readers are rather recent technology, but as market awareness grows, the market for users will grow too.

I agree that Apple’s second-generation products cover what the first generation products don’t have. But I think this is what any company would do when releasing new products. You have to have new features to promote and add benefit for later generation products, and therefore, you can’t put all your eggs in one basket in the first generation product, as you wouldn’t be able to add benefit for consumers in later products then. However, Apple does allow first generation products to be upgraded with simple software updates to keep up with the progressive changes in later generation models.

On this note, I understand your desire for multitasking on the iPad, but don’t let that deter you decision to buy an iPad in the present because a simple software update with the expected release of multitasking this fall will solve this issue. I would recommend waiting for the iPad 3G model though as it is near release. Being able to access internet options in more areas than just on wi-fi networks is advantageous on many different levels in things like reaching email accounts or being able to show the business plan electronically. Being able to show the business plan electronically in a moments notice provides for a one up in business and sales.

Everyone I know that has an iPad absolutely loves it. After being able to interact with the product myself, I’m not even on the fence on if I should get one or not. It’s an innovative piece of technology that could be used for countless things. It is great for creating quick documents and watching presentations or videos on a brilliant screen while being able to simply flip the iPad over and show others whatever your working on instead of having to explain it in words. It’s so innovative, that companies like HP are trying to render their own versions of the iPad to keep up with Apple’s innovative leading technology in the market. I don’t have the funding to purchase one for myself at this point in time, but I can assure you if I had one, I’d be writing this from my iPad right now.

I hope my insight is helpful to your decision.

Market America is heading for the number one position on the world wide web as the innovative internet product brokerage company. JR Ridinger,Founder and CEO of the internet retailing giant holds no bars when it comes to keeping up with technology. Recently he was ahead of the game when he purchased the new iPad when it first hit the market. With his tech savvy, he quickly learned that it functions similar to the iPhone--of which he's been using since it's onset. JR needs to continue staying on top of the latest technology because his company, Market America leads the way when it comes to ingenuity, and technological foresight. Unlike the iPad which has much of the same technology as the iPhone, Market America is unparalleled and unmatched with anything currently available, or anything in sight. JR's Market America currently has 150,000(and growing). Unfranchise owners across the country, and has already produced over 300 millionaires! So whenever there is breaking news on some new innovative tech gadget....just keep your eyes on JR Ridinger. As always, he'll be one step ahead of the market.

~AND THAT'S WHY JR NEEDS TO GET AN IPAD--BECAUSE PEOPLE LOOK TO HIM TO KNOW OF, AND USE THE LASTEST TECHNOLOGY.

I have been with Market America for 3 years, as a nutraMetrix consultant, and need to get an H.P. to sign up and become a partner. I really have given my all to calling on many doctors. Right now, to win this prize would really lift my spirits, and inspire me to keep growing. Please make my day!!!! Thanks, Arleta Peknik

Oprah seems to just love hers. She gushed about having the Kindle application on the iPad - and her demonstration of it showed the animation on the pages and how you actually 'turn' the pages....more like reading a real book. It might need some tweaking, but it does look pretty cool!! I love to read and think it would be great to have this as a companion to my blackberry pearl flip - which I love, too!

I love my iPhone! It's easy to use right from the purchase. I know the ipad will be just as user friendly if not more because the larger size. The larger size is so nice (but not too large) kind of like a net book but better. I love touch screen and the hands on feeling. To zoom in or touch the item or picture you want is powerful. Makes Internet fun and easy and eye catching. And were one of the Internet leaders we should have leading technology that helps us expand our buisness. The thought of the ipad gets me excited! And it would help me get people excited about MA programs. Apps are endless. Wow my phone in a larger version would be amazing :) that's my thought

I'd have to say that the iPad can definitely be a plus for doing presentations and using other applications outside of the home since I don't have a netbook. The laptop is a pain to lug around. The only thing holding me back would be the price. I figure it would be a great buy if it weren't so pricey when I could get a netbook for less than $300.

The iPad is a convenient and important way to take the internet out of the house and into people's lives. Web shopping has mainly been an at home process. What the iPad does and will do is improve upon what the iPhone has already done - allow people to use the web for shopping on the go; ways that they were never able to do being tethered to a laptop or desktop at home or work. The iPad could be a potential game player for MA because people could shop for something whenever they want. The minute they think of an item they won't need to wait any longer. It is also a perfect business tool. It enables the UFO to conveniently show the MA web portal any where they happen to be as well as business related presentations and audios.
I think MA would do well to update their iPhone app and optimize it for the iPad as well. MA is a company that is in the forefront of technology and as you noted, Apple is in the forefront of inovation. There needs to be a synergy between the two.

JR, from your perspective, the Ipad is a sales channel. The Ipad users generally will have to pay for everything they do on the Ipad. the apps on the Ipad generally sell things to people you need an Ipad so you can understand how it work. with this understanding you will have your staff create an application that will allow millions of people to buy Market America products through the Ipad- at the touch of a button. Apple has demonstrated that they can sell billions$ through there other sales channels the Ipod, and the Iphone. THis will be repeated with the Ipad.
    GET ONE.
You should get an iPad for me also, as a reward for all my hard work in becoming an Excutive Coordinator in my frist year. I want to take my new Ipad on stage with me when I reach my next pin level - so that I can show everyone how great Market America is and how there are real rewards for hard work in Market America.

I am an Apple fan and I like the quality and innovations of their products. Just like you I am on the fence about the IPad and see the enormous potential. One of the cool things about new technology is that you didn't realize how much you needed (wanted) it until it was created. I am told that the companies who make electronic equipment use the dissatisfaction or visions of musicians and from their comments create the perfect keyboard, sounds, ect. Because you are a visionary and are able to see the potential with this product (like discussed above) Apple can use comments to make the changes that are needed to create a more useful product. Plus you are so cutting edge I don't think we could imagine you without the latest technology and finding a way to incorporate it even with its limitations into building the business. I had planned on getting the second or third round of the Ipad for the very reasons you mentioned but if I had one today I could definitely use it to build my business.

The best reason to have an IPAD is because of the size, it is portable but the bigger screen makes it easier to show a prospect my webportal, any time , any where.

    Mr. J.R.
I believe I should own an iPad because it would be very useful for the Market America business. It will help me get started in the business by helping me set up my own websites, listen to the Market America MP3's and more. It will also be a huge factor in helping me get through school. I won't have to fight for the computer with my mother to do research for mt essays. That brings me to what I will do with it. I'm not going to lie to you Mr. Ridinger, the iPad is an awesome piece of tech. that you can do all sorts of fun stuff with. You can also do online calling with it. I don't have a cell phone yet so it would be a great thing if I could communicate with my family if I got separated from them in the mall or anything else. I would use it to do my reports and research for school activities. I would use it to help my mom in the business by letting her use it from time to time. It will simplify my daily routine by not having to log of the computer and wasting time waiting fro it. That's why I think I should receive the iPad.

Step forward ....step backward...now I am ready to move forward again. Truth..I am OVER 50 y/o. I have been loving technology and how it can connect us all and how it can "serve" us ...both personally and professionally. Invited by Judy and Gary Rodrigez .. I attended a "Ron Hill" educational event in Buffalo this year..When Ron held his Daytimer up in the air and spoke about Market America and his Mission Statement, he made me realize how much I missed scribbling and writing in my Daytimer. Now , it's 6 months later, and I know I need to combine the techno and the pen ( my hubby suggest the Smart Pen). So, I would love to share the iPod adventure in learning with you, JR....As my grandson would say, "Pick me!!!" L
Thanks for all the adventures through Market America distributorships.

    JR,

Why does anyone need an ipad?

Well the answer depends on why you want it and what you plan to do with it.

    I'll explain:

If you want it to seamlessly experience the web. To "View whole pages in portrait or landscape on the large Multi-Touch screen. And let your fingers do the surfing" while your mind is lethargically feeding on the endless information (both true and false) that is so prevalent on the web, all the while forwarding countless links to your unsuspecting "ex" friends while your bank account screams for the smallest deposit that your not creating because you can't muster the emotional strength to hit the off button --- then you definitely don't need one!

    BUT,

If you want it to keep up with and find new friends to develop, recruit, and sponsor new business associates, you can "scroll through a page just by flicking up or down on the screen. Double-tap a section on a page to enlarge or shrink it. Or pinch to zoom in or out" while saving a lot of time for the other result producing activities --- --- then you definitely need one!

    Also,

If your into watching videos, "Safari supports the latest web video and audio innovations in HTML5, you can enjoy the rich multimedia experience you expect from the Internet. Safari plays compatible video right in the page, or you can double-tap a video to play it full screen. So you can join the countless millions of people who sit at home each night watching the TV and Video wealth zappers while their family suffers financially (mommy and daddy are Vid/Tv addicts), and emotionally (I didn't mean to step in front of the screen mommy)--- then you definitely don't need one!

    BUT,

If you want it so you can show that prospect the new website you created for him with maweb center or the 2-3 year plan while sitting in a restaurant, then, "All of the built-in apps on iPad were designed from the ground up to take advantage of the large Multi-Touch screen and advanced capabilities of iPad. And they work in any orientation. So you can do things with these apps that you can’t do on any other device, --- then you definitely need one!

    And finally,\

If you want an iPad to spend your days and nights giving away chickens and harvesting corn on farmville, or playing any of the other 4,624 games on facebook --- then you definitely don't need one!

    But,

If you want an iPad to Market the MA
"Deal of the Day" to your selected friends through the multiple social networking widgets provided by ma, or to help your friends shop 35 million products while never leaving facebook -- then you definitely need one!

Bottom line --- check your motive, then decide. Will this $500 expense put money in my pocket or keep me poor?

Like you, I have a blackberry in my pocket, and my kids both have iPhones. I also have an iTouch, which I have loaded my favorite songs onto from iTunes.
I just got a Nook from Barnes and Noble for my birthday, which I love because they are one of our online partners, I already have a Barnes and Nobel account, and I can now download books as I need them for trips I go on, and I don't have to guess how many heavy books to carry along. :) I guess I am intrigued by the iPad, but don't really need one, especially since I also have a Netbook. I would love to get my hands on one to play around with though. :)

Frankly, I do not need one more thing to micro-manage. As I work with my team, I do not want to start a tidel wave of the next new thing and have them rushing out to buy the latest technology, to find them disappointed. What I love about Market America, everything I do and ask of my team to do, always, always is duplicatable or I don't entertain the idea. Whether it's a new business, new gadget, etc. I like the idea of not having stacks of books on my desk to read and trying to remember what page I was on for what book. It would be a neat feature to have them at a finger tip. That is the only feature I see that might interest me to trial run before I ask my team to purchase the newest technology and I can lead them as to how to use it. Now having the ability to show the plan at any time.........with something I have in my pocket is a no brainer!

Apple is definitely leading the parade in technology innovation here. There will be lots of followers after that. In fact, IBM, Google, Microsoft, HP, and others already have their own version of ipad coming up soon. Apple Ipad should not be compared as a computer though. It's an ebook reader, internet browser, email, audio, and video. Great innovation none the less. It's more of want vs need question.

Hi JR! I am very new to this business and not tech savvy. This would be a great way for me to get with the times, show my portal and become a successful businessman. Why you should have it... as busy as you are I'd hate to see you miss an important date like Loren's birthday or your anniversary. The iPad would not only remind you of these dates, but with the click of a button you'd have ordered her that special gift. Is there any greater reason than that? I think not!

I have always serviced and maintained my own computers. Even though I believe that apple has better software and hardware than the microsoft pc's I have never ben able to afford an apple. Also I stuck with micrsoft based pc's because of the ease of use with other applications. For the most part I have been happy. Until recently when I found out microsoft puts spyware on your computer to track certain functions of your pc. The apple platform does not have that. I would go with the apple on that principle alone. But that's me I believe in a free America and I still say God bless it.
