The Missing Link?

For years LinkedIn has trailed MySpace, and the social behemoth Facebook, but a new report indicates this is changing. According to this article on CNN, LinkedIn just past MySpace for second place in the social media race, at least in terms of unique monthly visitors. For months MySpace has been losing steam, while LinkedIn has been gathering momentum and attracting new users – about 1 million new users a week. While LinkedIn still trails Facebook by a wide margin, the social network has been making recent strides.

Last month LinkedIn had 33.9 unique visitors, while MySpace had 33.4. While MySpace still has about 15 million more active users than LinkedIn’s 115 million, the fact that LinkedIn had more unique monthly visitors in June is a strong sign that MySpace continues to slip in social circles. LinkedIn has been really surging these past few months, and is really starting to come into its own. For those of you who are interested, here’s an interesting article with 5 Helpful LinkedIn Tips.

As LinkedIn becomes a force among social networks by adding about 1 million new users each week, it begs the question: Do you use LinkedIn, or are you LinkedOut?

LinkedIn has always been complimentary to social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace functioning as a professional network. LinkedIn is more about maintaining business connections and not about playing games or posting humorous status updates. This is a very important distinction and one that I hope remains.
