Clearly, the impact this event has on the local area is huge. Many of the businesses located in the Greensboro Coliseum area directly benefit from events such as the Market America International Convention – take Stamey’s for example. Stamey’s is a local BBQ restaurant located just across the street from the Coliseum. The business has been around since the 1930’s, making some of the best BBQ in the area, and in their 81 years in business Stamey’s has seen events come and go. The importance of events such as Market America’s International Convention is not lost on Stamey’s President, Chip Stamey, a third generation business owner who had this to say about the impact MAIC has on local businesses:
“The conventions like Market America are even the best things that we can have. Basketball games and those kind of things that we have in the Greensboro Coliseum really help us, but anything that’s over a certain amount of days, and when people are there for long periods of time – that is really the best kind of event they bring into the Coliseum that help us, and Market America is right up there with the top.”
Changing the lives of individuals is a tremendously rewarding endeavor, and one we thoroughly enjoy at Market America. With events like our International Convention, it’s nice to see that the impact goes beyond individuals, and really helps local businesses flourish as well.
