Every single day, we are faced with challenges in our lives. Whether it is with finances, the decision to take on another job, to take a new job, or to take the time to learn how to do something ourselves. Regardless, we all face some sort of obstacle each and every day. Some people are better at dealing with them -- in fact, they don't deal with them at all, they let them build up to where they're too much. Others seek out people that are knowledgeable and ask them for advice. Then there are the go-getters, people that go seek out others and then continue forging ahead after they've learned how to overcome their own obstacles.
Just the other day, it really got me thinking about my trip to Aspen, Colorado to go skiing. Sure, skiing is a difficult sport. It also has obstacles just like we do in our daily lives. You've got your bunny slope (for people that haven't ever skied), your black diamond, and your double black diamond -- basically easy, medium and hard. Like the daily obstacles we face, skiing is the same way. Sure, I could plan a ski trip and go watch people ski, sit on the sidelines, but that doesn't really get you anywhere without really experiencing things firsthand. We've got to experience it, try it out, get our feet wet.
By standing on the sidelines, we're not only missing out on a lot of great opportunities, but we're also standing still. In order to get places in life, you've got to be willing to try things, learn what you like, what you don't necessarily like, and plot a course to get there. When I first started skiing, I'll admit, I wasn't very good, but through networking, I've met some phenomenal people along the way who have helped me get better. Some people have taught me different techniques, others have been there to push me to move up from the black diamond to the double black diamond. Without their mentoring, I may have been stuck on the bunny slope.
So I ask, please watch this short video and think about what obstacles you face each and every day and how you work to overcome them to help get you to your ultimate goal. It may not be skiing, it may be your financial goals, the ability to buy a larger house, to learn how to do something.
Leave a comment and let me know what challenges you face and what you do to overcome them. Just by letting others know what you need help with, can really help you network with people who have experienced similar obstacles and overcame them.
Keep growing. I believe in you.
